The Knitting Salon - Yarn and Pattern Club

The Knitting Salon: an Exclusive Yarn and Pattern Club

SIGN UPS ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED.

I would like to invite you to join me and Persephone Books on a journey weaving through the decades via literature and .knitting. Allow us to spin you an unforgettable yarn.

I'm immensely excited to announce the 2022 yarn and pattern club. We've been secretly planning this fabulous club behind the scenes, and this year, you can expect three beautiful accessory patterns, stunning Susan Crawford yarns hand-dyed here at SCV and dazzling storytelling.

Wait, did i just say storytelling?

Yes, indeed I did. As we enter our 10th year of supporting British wool with Susan Crawford yarns, we are also joining forces with Persephone Books for the Knitting Salon Yarn and Pattern Club.

Persephone Books is a uniquely British publishing house that reprints neglected fiction and non-fiction. Most of the Persephone Books range comprises women writers who have been disregarded despite their intelligent and thought-provoking prose.

Overlooking a craft simply because women have undertaken it? That sounds rather familiar! The ethos and aesthetics of Persephone are very close to my heart and coincide with those that continually inspire me to create patterns, dye yarns, and write and publish the type of books often disregarded by mainstream publishing. Each title published by Persephone Books is covered in an elegant grey jacket, with stunningly patterned endpapers and matching bookmark - and all just the right size to tuck into your knitting basket. Looking closer at the endpapers will give you a hint of the colour inspirations for the hand-dyed yarns in each of your beautiful Club packages.

Each Knitting Salon package will include:

One of three Persephone Book titles carefully selected by Susan, plus their matching bookmark - these pages are far too precious to dog ear!

Limited-edition Susan Crawford Vintage yarns, hand-dyed in-house in shades inspired by the endpapers of each title.

A printed pattern booklet (plus a PDF version for when you need to take your knitting on the move) - the exclusive patterns designed by Susan, directly inspired by each of the decades from which the book titles are chosen.

Please do take a moment to read the Technical Stuff below for further information.

Places are strictly limited to 200 participants so do sign up now to avoid bitter disappointment!

The Patterns

Each of the three patterns designed by Susan, will be a beautiful, wearable accessory - either a shawl, a hat or socks, inspired by the era each of our books was first published - the 1910s, 1930s and 1940s - and will feature some interesting techniques to improve your skill base in an enjoyable, clear pattern. Bonus video tutorials will be provided demonstrating techniques and introducing the designs. Interested, but would like to know more? These are the designs from last year's sold out club:

The Yarns

At SCV we have been creating our own yarns using British wool grown, sheared and spun in the UK, for 10 years now, working with local mills within a 100 mile radius to produce our local yarns. Both our own fleeces and those of other local farmers go into creating our unique and beautiful yarns. This Club will celebrate this, with stunning SCV yarns included in each of your packages. And if that's not enough, the yarns will all be hand-dyed by Susan and Charlie, in new shades inspired by the end-papers on each of your Persephone book titles.

Exclusive Bonus: The Salon

People have always gathered with yarn and knitting needles in hand to exchange tales, discuss books and troubleshoot their knitting and I wanted to be able to bring this salon culture to my club members. And so, this year, we will be hosting a regular online book and knitting salon for you to mix and mingle with other knitters and readers.
